Job Description:
Point72s Tax team sits at the center of a sophisticated global investment platform, overseeing tax compliance and planning across hedge funds, private equity and management companies, high-net-worth individuals, and tax-exempt organizations.
The team partners closely with Big Four accounting firms and leading external advisors to manage the preparation and review of partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state tax filings. Beyond compliance, the group leads tax research, planning initiatives, and firmwide projects, collaborating across the organization to address complex tax issues in a dynamic investment environment.
Daily Responsibilities:
Lead tax compliance and reporting for Point72s private credit business, building scalable processes across partnerships, corporations, blockers, and feeders
Manage and review federal and state tax returns, extensions, investor Schedule K-1s, tax estimates, workpapers, and supporting schedules
Coordinate and drive cross-functional timelines, data requests, review comments, issue logs, documentation, and internal controls with investment, accounting, legal, investor relations, operations, tax technology teams, and external advisors
Operationalize tax planning and structuring conclusions into compliance deliverables, reporting templates, data requirements, and review procedures
Review and analyze book-to-tax adjustments, partnership allocations, capital account movements, withholding for non-U.S. investors, effectively connected income, unrelated business taxable income, original issue discount, market discount, and debt/equity characterization impacts
Partner with external accounting firms and tax advisors to oversee return preparation, manage quality control, and resolve complex technical issues
Lead process improvement and tax technology initiatives to automate data gathering, workflows, and compliance reporting
Mentor and train junior tax staff and provide clear technical guidance on investment-level tax matters
Communicate tax implications and timelines to senior stakeholders and investment teams, translating technical issues into actionable next steps
Job Requirements:
10+ years of U.S. tax experience including significant alternative investment fund tax compliance experience
Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field and an active CPA license
Demonstrated experience with private credit, private equity, credit fund, or similar asset management tax matters
Proven experience reviewing partnership and corporate fund tax compliance for blockers, feeders, tiered partnership structures, and complex investment structures
Strong technical knowledge of partnership allocations, capital accounts, book-to-tax adjustments, investor reporting, Schedule K-1 preparation, tax estimates, and supporting workpapers
Working knowledge of private credit tax issues including direct lending, loan origination, withholding for non-U.S. investors, effectively connected income, unrelated business taxable income, original issue discount, market discount, and debt/equity characterization impacts
Experience managing engagements with external accounting firms and tax advisors, including coordination of deliverables and technical reviews
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and demonstrable experience using tax technology or process automation tools to improve compliance workflows
Excellent written and oral communication, strong attention to detail, ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple stakeholders, and sound technical judgment with a compliance-focused mindset
